When I look back and think of my 15 years, I think of the good times, the enjoyment, and the progress that I’ve made. You know, from an apprentice, graduating, getting my journeyman’s license, moving into the estimating position. I’m an estimator; I count things. I work a lot with general contractors and subcontractors, building relationships and being able to put that work in place. It takes a lot of coordination and a lot of knowledge of what the parts and pieces are and how the project goes together.

When I applied, I actually just wanted some sort of office job – filing papers, whatever. We didn’t really have any expectations of what I would be doing, but they stuck me in the shop organizing things. Then it slowly changed into me helping to build things, and they were like, “Well, do you want to be an apprentice?” So, I started doing the school, and then it just kind of blossomed into a career after that. But yeah, it’s been 15 years and a wild road. It’s been fun. I really love the guys I work with, and that, for me, is like the boost, I guess.

My eight-year-old asks me all the time, and he’s like, “I just don’t understand, Dad. You’re going to win bids. I don’t know what that means.” So, it’s kind of fun to see when they start to understand things like the principle of it costs this much to do a project, and we’re trying to get that money for Barts Electric. It’s gone by really fast, but when you look back, you can kind of see the milestones. So, 15 years, it’s another milestone, and I do hope that this relationship with Barts Electric continues and see where it goes in the future.
