Barts Electric, a leading national electrical construction contractor, is renowned for its commitment to excellence in the field of electrical work. One of the key initiatives through which they foster this commitment is the Red Hat Program. Designed to nurture aspiring electricians and those looking to embark on a career in the electrical industry, the Red Hat Program provides valuable training and mentorship opportunities.

What is the Red Hat Program?

The Red Hat Program at Barts Electric was initiated to offer comprehensive training and support to individuals interested in becoming electricians. Before delving into the instructional aspect, participants spend four weeks at Barts Electric’s facilities. Here, they are acquainted with the fundamental principles of electrical work and prepared for the journey ahead.

Mentorship and Job Placement

A pivotal aspect of the Red Hat Program is the provision of mentors. Andrew, the program coordinator, pairs participants with experienced journeymen who guide them through their learning process. These mentors not only impart technical knowledge but also share insights gained from years of hands-on experience in the field.

Furthermore, participants are facilitated in securing job placements at various Barts Electric job sites. This hands-on exposure is invaluable, allowing individuals to apply their newly acquired skills in real-world scenarios under the supervision of seasoned professionals.

Emphasis on Ownership and Hustle

From the onset, participants are instilled with the values of ownership and hustle. They are reminded that they own their time and are expected to exhibit punctuality and dedication. A fundamental rule outlined by Barts Electric is for participants to arrive at least 15 minutes before the designated start time, fully equipped and ready to work.

Hustle is emphasized as a cornerstone of success within the program. Initiative, proactiveness, and a strong work ethic are celebrated traits. Participants are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to their craft by showing enthusiasm and drive in their daily tasks.

Cultivating a Culture of Excellence

Central to the Red Hat Program is the cultivation of a culture of excellence. Barts Electric prides itself on maintaining a work environment where dedication and professionalism thrive. The program serves as a litmus test, allowing both participants and the company to assess compatibility with this culture. Those who demonstrate a genuine desire to contribute to this ethos are welcomed into the Barts Electric family.

Barts Electric is always on the lookout for new talent to join their ranks. Whether you’re an aspiring electrician eager to kickstart your career or an experienced journeyman seeking new opportunities, Barts Electric welcomes you. In conclusion, the Red Hat Program stands as a testament to Barts Electric’s unwavering commitment to empowering electricians and fostering excellence within the industry. The Red Hat Program was started before I actually began the instruction. They come here, and I have them for four weeks. Then, Andrew finds them a mentor to go with and a job site to go to. I tell them when they come here, there are two things that they bring with them: hustle and time. They own their time. My rule for Barts Electric for them is to be at least in the parking lot by 15 minutes till 7, then to be in the building before seven with your tools on, ready to go.

Hustle is everything. I mean, if you walk from point to point and you drag your feet and you don’t show that initiative that you want to be here to work, well, that’s part of what this program is for, to find out. And if they don’t want to be part of that culture that we have here, then they’re not going to make it.
