So, I started at Barts Electric when I was 18 years old, right out of high school. I’d had a couple of small jobs that didn’t really matter; they were of no importance. I came to Barts Electric knowing that being an electrician is a good career. I didn’t know what it would do for me, but I knew it was a promising career.

As I joined Barts Electric, I went to work. There were many people who encouraged me to take on various tasks and challenges. Sometimes, I did them grudgingly, thinking, “This sucks. Why do I have to do this?” However, deep down, I didn’t realize that people were looking out for my betterment, setting me up for future opportunities.

It took me a few years to realize, as I climbed up through the ranks and learned the trade, that I was actually learning and growing. I began to see that Barts Electric was helping build me as an individual. The biggest realization about Barts Electric was that they would provide me with opportunities at the union. I needed to be willing to capitalize on each opportunity they gave.
