Building People at Barts Electric

At Barts Electric, the philosophy of building people is at the core of their values. Sean Pummel stands as a prime example of how this commitment translates into real success stories. As a first-year apprentice, Sean embarked on his journey with Barts Electric, a company that prioritizes the well-being of its employees, customers, and the overall success of the organization.

Sean’s Ascension

Sean’s dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed. Progressing through the ranks, he transitioned from a first-year apprentice to a third-year apprentice, demonstrating his commitment to personal and professional development. Recognizing Sean’s potential, Barts Electric promoted him to the role of estimator, a position where he thrived and excelled.

Estimating Excellence

Sean’s journey continued as he assumed leadership of the entire estimating department, showcasing his prowess and becoming one of the best estimators within the company. His success in handling projects of varying complexities underscored Barts Electric’s confidence in its employees and their abilities.

Learning from Challenges

Every success story is marked by challenges, and Sean’s journey was no exception. A pivotal moment occurred when he bid his first job at $300,000, only to face a significant mistake in his subsequent bid at $1.2 million. However, Barts Electric stood by Sean, working collaboratively to rectify the situation and demonstrating the company’s commitment to doing the right thing, always. This experience not only strengthened Sean’s confidence but also reinforced the notion that Barts Electric is dedicated to the success of its employees and the satisfaction of its customers.

One example of building people is Sean Pummel. Sean Pummel builds everybody that works around him. He’s got their best interest in mind; he does the right thing always. He looks out for the customer, looks out for the employee, looks out for the company.

One way Sean has worked up in the company is we hired him as a first-year apprentice. When he became a third-year apprentice, we promoted him as an estimator. Sean has been tremendous at it; he is one of the best estimators I’ve ever seen. Now, he has grown to running the whole estimating department. He now runs the out-of-town division for us, and Sean’s got the potential to run Barts Electric. To me, that’s just such a great success story.

When Sean bid his very first job, he bid it at $300,000. The next bid was $1.2 million; he made a huge mistake. We worked through it together, found a way to make it work, found a way to work with a customer, and it all worked out. I think that one experience with Sean showed him that the customer, the company does the right thing all the time, and we have your back. We’re gonna win together. Sean got his confidence back, and now he’s become one of the best estimators, one of the best assets at Barts Electric.

So, I think his life and his career at Barts Electric is a great example of how Barts Electric built a specific person. But along the way, Sean has built 20, 30, 40, 50 people at Barts himself. His family’s better off because of it; his kids are better off because of it. He’s just grown tremendously with this opportunity that we believed in him.
