My name is Kylie. I’m a first-year apprentice. I’ve been here about a year. My dad kind of worked with HVAC and electrical, and stuff like that. So, I found an apprenticeship, and here I am. I would like to be a project manager eventually. I wanted to spend some time as a foreman and then move up to a project manager. I love how every day is pretty much different. You might do something for a week, but the next week, you’re probably looking at something completely different.

There are tons of things that could go wrong and tons of things you can fix. You’re learning every day. As far as I can tell, no one has treated me any differently than any other guys. In my opinion, the more women want to do this, the better. It’s good that women are getting into trades. It’s a great career, particularly here at Barts Electric. There are tons of ways to grow. You just gotta ask. You’ve got to push yourself and let yourself be pushed by other people, but you’ve got to really want the opportunities. There’s a lot you can go after.
