Barts Electric, a leading national electrical construction contractor, is at the forefront of cutting-edge technology in the electrical industry. In this informative blog article, we delve into the details of a recent video from Barts Electric that showcases the application of Trimble technology in the field. This information is tailored for electricians and individuals aspiring to become part of the electrical industry. Moreover, Barts Electric is actively seeking new electrical apprentices and experienced journeymen to join their dynamic team.

Understanding Trimble Technology

The video reveals a key component, a receiver, which is an integral part of the Trimble technology utilized by Barts Electric. The receiver is used to set up and establish points on a job site, allowing for precise mapping and location tracking.

Setting Up the Trimble System

The first step involves placing the receiver on a tripod at a designated point on the job site. This point serves as a reference for the Trimble camera, which is strategically positioned to capture crucial data. The Trimble camera is then utilized to shoot anchor bolts at different points on the site, creating a triangulated map of the entire building.

Mapping the Building

By shooting anchor bolts at various locations and mapping the building, the Trimble system becomes calibrated to the specific structure. The Trimble camera, once set up, follows the user around the site, tracking their movements in real-time. This tracking includes rotation, pivoting, and elevation adjustments, ensuring a dynamic and accurate representation on the screen.

Triangulation for Precision

The Trimble system relies on triangulation, utilizing known points on the job site to accurately determine the location of the user. Barts Electric emphasizes the importance of establishing three known points for calibration, allowing the Trimble system to triangulate and map any location within the working radius. This precision is vital for electrical construction projects, ensuring accurate measurements and placement of components.

Global Positioning and Calibration

While the Trimble system utilizes satellite technology to determine its global position, the calibration process involves setting up three known points on the job site. This combination of satellite positioning and on-site calibration enables the Trimble system to provide accurate and real-time location data, enhancing efficiency in electrical construction projects.

This is the component that’s a receiver. Probably need to do is like Sawyer, we could set this thing up, and it can actually go out and walk. So, you’ve got it here, and then every time you move around out there, that point right there, then you see it on the screen. You’ve actually got the layout of this pad. Let me raise this up. The other component is in this box. Okay, now this is starting to make sense to me. This is the transit, the position. Put it on your tripod, set it up at a third point—the Trimble camera that you set up on your site. Then you’ll have given points with easting and west northing. In the eastings, you go out; this anchor bolt is the corner of the building. You shoot that, then you go over at a triangle and shoot another anchor bolt. Then it will map the entire building. It’s calibrated to the building, and this will follow you around, spin, pivot up and down to follow the iPad and tell you exactly where you’re at in the building—triangulating the best working radius for the Trimble. A happy triangle so it always knows it’s triangulating every place you move. This ensures the satellites tell it where it’s at. Yeah, it knows where it’s at in the world, but once you establish a point for it and then take this to two other known points, you can triangulate off that anywhere on the job site.
