Barts Electric, a national electrical construction contractor, is at the forefront of shaping the future of electrical work. In this accompanying blog article, we delve into the insights shared in a recent Barts Electric company video, focusing on the importance of training for electricians and those aspiring to join the electrical industry.

One Step at a Time

The video emphasizes the significance of a systematic approach in electrical work. “Start with one thing at a time,” says a seasoned electrician from Barts Electric, highlighting the importance of clear communication and collaboration among team members. This approach ensures that everyone knows their roles and responsibilities, fostering a cohesive working environment.

Building People

Barts Electric understands the value of mentorship and on-the-job training. The video emphasizes the company’s commitment to building its team members. “This is how we build people, and this is how you’re going to teach each other,” states the electrician. This commitment to continuous learning is not only beneficial for individual growth but also contributes to the overall success of the projects undertaken by Barts Electric.

Hiring and Training

One notable aspect highlighted in the video is Barts Electric’s dedication to hiring and training new talent. The company is actively seeking electrical apprentices and experienced journeymen. By providing comprehensive training, Barts Electric aims to ensure that its team members are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge required for success in the electrical industry.

The Excitement of Electrical Work

The passion for the trade is evident as the electrician shares what excites him about electrical work. The joy of seeing a light switch work, mastering a dimmer, and successfully wiring up a project brings a sense of accomplishment. This enthusiasm is infectious, creating a positive work environment where team members take pride in their skills and the impact they have on clients.

Faster Journeyman Development

Barts Electric sets ambitious goals for its team members. The company aims to nurture electricians who can progress to journeyman status in a shorter timeframe. The electrician in the video expresses the desire for new hires to become journeymen in five years rather than the traditional ten. This goal reflects Barts Electric’s commitment to accelerating the learning curve and providing its team members with the knowledge and experience needed for rapid professional development.

Barts Electric’s dedication to training, mentorship, and fostering a positive work environment stands out in the electrical construction industry. Aspiring electricians and experienced journeymen alike can find a supportive and growth-oriented atmosphere at Barts Electric, where the focus is not just on getting the job done but on building a skilled and enthusiastic workforce that takes pride in their craft. Start with one thing at a time. We should all know what each other’s doing so that we don’t, like, you know, talk to each other, okay? You want to run one guy, run the power for the light. I mean, run the switch leg from light to light. One’s going to run to tie in the switches. Okay, one’s going to figure out the path for the receptacles. I know the space is tight, but this is how we build people, and this is how you’re going to teach each other. I didn’t have this training when I started, and it really helps us.

I know how I didn’t like, I know how I didn’t like to be taught, and I wish we’d have had this. And I train on the job, and I don’t want to be the only one doing it. So why not train these new guys, get them in here? My mind can focus on something else on the project while these guys are wiring up, and I can be getting the next task together.

But what excites me about this is these guys. When they see a light switch work, and they know how to work a dimmer, and they know how to wire stuff up, that’s what gets me on.

That’s what turned me on about electrical. It’s the excitement of putting up the product in place, and it actually works, and putting smiles on people’s faces. When these guys got excited, it let me know that I was doing my job right, and they’re getting the right training that they need. And that’s the whole goal. I want these guys to be in a faster journeyman than a guy that took 10 years. Why not be a journeyman in five than 10 years? And that’s the goal. We want to get these guys as much knowledge as possible, get them out in the field, have fun safely, and let’s make some money.
