At Barts Electric, we believe in more than just building electrical systems—we believe in building careers. As a national electrical construction contractor, Barts Electric takes pride in developing the next generation of electricians by offering real opportunities, hands-on experience, and a supportive team culture.
In this video, we hear from Travon, who joined Barts Electric in 2024. His story is an inspiring example of how someone new to the industry can successfully begin a career in electrical construction.
From Healthcare to Electrical Construction
Before joining Barts Electric, Travon’s professional background was in healthcare. He worked as a phlebotomist in high school and later provided in-home healthcare. After moving back to Kansas City in 2024, he decided to pursue a different path—one that would provide him with long-term opportunities for growth and advancement.
That’s when Travon found Barts Electric. With no prior on-site electrical experience, he stepped into the trade and quickly discovered that Barts Electric’s supportive culture would help him succeed.
A Culture That Builds People Up
Travon describes the culture at Barts Electric as “fantastic.” Unlike other jobs he has had, he says Barts Electric offers the best environment to learn, grow, and build a career.
What makes the difference? Teamwork and mentorship. Whether it’s a foreman, superintendent, project manager, or fellow electricians, everyone at Barts Electric is committed to helping each other. Travon knows he can reach out to anyone for guidance and support—something that makes all the difference for those just starting in the trade.
Learning the Trade: A Strong First 90 Days
Travon’s first 90 days were filled with opportunities to build practical skills. He began in the shop, learning essential techniques like bending conduit, wiring lights, installing receptacles, and working with three-way switches.
From there, he gained real-world experience on job sites:
-
Park Hill Project – Worked under Quinton, focusing on overhead lighting and rooftop units.
-
KNC Project – Took responsibility for installing structural steel, hangers, and spearheading wire pulls.
These experiences gave Travon the confidence and skills he needed to move forward in his career as an electrician.
Why Choose Barts Electric?
Travon calls joining Barts Electric “the best first step” he has ever taken. His journey highlights what makes Barts Electric different:
-
A supportive culture that helps new electricians learn and grow.
-
Hands-on training that builds real, applicable skills.
-
