At Barts Electric, we take pride in not only delivering high-quality electrical construction work but also finding innovative ways to save time and improve efficiency on the job site. As a national electrical construction contractor, our work spans across industries and locations, and we’re always looking for smarter ways to complete projects while maintaining our commitment to safety and quality.

In one of our recent projects, our team demonstrated just how effective planning and prefabrication can be.

Smarter Prefabrication = Major Time Savings

A key factor in the success of this project was the time savings we achieved by pre-installing the driver boards and preparing the troughs that hold the light fixtures. These troughs typically come in 10-foot sections, but the finished runs needed to be 40 feet long. To streamline the process, we built them in 20-foot sections instead.

This approach effectively cut the number of pieces and the amount of labor in half. By pre-drilling everything on jigs at our office, the components arrived on-site ready for installation. This meant our team could focus on efficient assembly instead of repetitive preparation work.

Safe and Efficient Installation

To move these large sections into place, we used a 40-foot boom lift to position the material exactly where it was needed. From there, the crew installed the troughs and fixtures using rolling scaffolding. The results were impressive—our team was able to install an entire floor of the building, complete with troughs and light fixtures, in just one week.

In the electrical construction world, that type of turnaround is almost unheard of.

The success of the job was the time savings that we had between pre-installing the driver boards and all of the trough that holds the light fixtures, which are in 10-foot sections.

Well, they come in at the end at 40 feet long. So, we were able to make them in 20-foot sections. That cut the amount of pieces and labor that we’re handling right there in half.

All of it was pre-drilled on jigs in our office, ready to come out on site. We forked them up into the buildings with our 40-foot boom lift in order to get the material where it needs to be hung off of scaffolding.

They would start at one end of the building with a roll of scaffolding. We were able to install an entire floor of that building in one week’s time. Trough up, fixtures hung. That’s unheard of.
