I think the trades are one of the best things you could do. Construction is fascinating; you touch it, you are in it, you’re engaging. You do all the things you would think you would do in any other career path. Except, 20 years down the road, you get to see the building that you helped build. You are part of the infrastructure; you’re part of the history. And for your entire life, you can share that with your friends and loved ones. That is an amazing thing that other industries do not offer.

Believing that you want to do something hands-on and technical, electrician is a great path. It’s a wonderful trade that has a great living. You can do it for a very long time, and it doesn’t wear your body down quite as much as some other trades.

The apprenticeship that we offer at Barts Electric is a Department of Labor certified apprenticeship. So when you complete that, we hope you stay with us, obviously, and have a long career. But that goes anywhere with you. I mean, that’s a certified journeyman. We have lots of classes and qualified journeyman here that help get to the next level. Get that journeyman’s license, get the Master’s license. In addition to that, we have other opportunities. You may go into the trades and decide, “I want to be an estimator,” or “I love project management,” or “I’m really interested in business development.” How do I sell these projects? We are a large enough company that we have those career paths internally.
