At Barts Electric, every career begins with opportunity — and the drive to grow. Colton, one of our dedicated team members, has been part of Barts Electric for just under a year and is already making an impact on major projects like KNC1. Working on the underground team, Colton handles critical tasks such as underground PVC installations, stub-ups for panels, and setting light and security poles. Recently, he’s taken on additional leadership responsibilities, overseeing small excavation crews and learning to read and interpret construction prints.

A Foundation of Experience and Dedication

Before joining Barts Electric, Colton served seven and a half years in the U.S. Army Reserves, bringing with him discipline and teamwork skills that have translated seamlessly into the electrical construction field. He also worked as a welder at Altec and gained experience in underground construction — from directional drilling and cable plowing to power and fiber optic installations. These experiences built a strong foundation for his transition into the electrical industry, where precision, safety, and leadership matter most.

A Company That Invests in Its People

One thing Colton immediately noticed about Barts Electric is the company’s genuine investment in its employees. Unlike many companies, Barts Electric makes a point to connect personally with team members through events like company lake days — opportunities for employees to relax, build camaraderie, and engage directly with leadership. These experiences reinforce one of the company’s core messages: at Barts Electric, growth and advancement are always within reach.

From day one, Barts Electric encourages employees to pursue their goals, whether it’s becoming a top electrician, foreman, or project manager. As Colton puts it, “If there’s anything you want to be at Barts Electric, all you have to do is ask.”

Strong Leadership and a Supportive Team

The leadership team at Barts Electric stands out for its approachability and willingness to teach. Colton describes the leaders as “super down-to-earth, easy to work with, and more than happy to share their knowledge without ever making you feel less for not knowing something already.” That attitude defines the company culture — a culture built on respect, mentorship, and shared success.

My name is Colton. I’ve been with Barts Electric for just under a year now. Right now, I’m working at KNC1. I do site crew. I’m on the underground team. I do a lot of underground PVC, stub-ups for panels. I set quasites, light poles, and security poles.

Of late, I’ve been given a little responsibility leading small crews on these excavations, so I’ve had to dig into the prints. Before Barts Electric, I was in the Army Reserves for about seven and a half years, and I was a welder at Altech for a while. From there, I went to doing underground construction, directional drilling, cable plowing, things of that nature. I did power for Amaran, all sorts of fiber optic. We did water lines and culverts.

Barts Electric seems to really care about their employees more than a lot of companies I’ve worked for. They make it a point to do a lot of things personally, like these lake days where they get the employees out. They get them around the executive teams. They show them what the possibilities are that the company has for them, which there are tons of. They make that very clear from day one—that if there’s anything you want to be at Barts Electric, all you have to do is ask.

I’d like to be the best electrician that I can be, and hopefully that leads to promotions. I’d love to run work for Barts Electric one day—foreman or project manager level. That would be the goal long term.

The leadership at Barts Electric has been great. Everyone’s super down to earth, easy to work with for the most part. Everybody’s super knowledgeable and more than happy to help share that knowledge without ever making you feel like you are less than because you don’t know it already. It’s been a great company to work for.
